Class Announcement August 30th- Competitive Shooting Class

What: Competitive Shooting Class

When: Saturday, August 30th – 9AM to approx 5PM

Where: CMYI Range – 4 miles southwest of Culpeper, VA. Directions to be provided once enrolled.

Who: Class limited to between 8 and 12 students.

Instructors:  David Binkley, USPSA Grand Master and Marc Scroggins, USPSA Grand Master

Fee:  $150 per person

Included: Lunch (Hamburgers/hot dogs, chips, drinks) prepared by CMYI personnel, water, and a good time.

What you must bring……..

  • Pistol or revolver – 9MM or larger
  • Gun belt with strong side hip holster
  • Five (5) magazines minimum if 10 rounds or less, three (3) magazines minimum if capacity is 15 rounds or greater.
  • Magazine pouches for said magazines
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Brimmed hat
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Ammunition – 300 rounds minimum, 400 to 500 recommended, the more you bring, the more you will shoot.
  • An open mind

 What you may want to bring………

  • Sunscreen
  • Towels – for sweat and for your gear
  • Cleaning gear and tools to work on your gun
  • Rain gear
  • Chair/stool
  • Notebook, pen/Sharpie
  • Camera/video
  • Snacks/drinks

While no one will be excluded, this class will be most beneficial for those prior experience drawing and shooting from the holster. We will start in the morning going over the fundamentals that we teach to build the platform that we shoot from. Once everyone has a firm grasp the fundamentals, we will move on to the fun stuff that will include things like the following………

  • Transitions and target splits
  • Multiple targets
  • Reloads
  • Hard cover targets
  • Activated targets/moving targets
  • Shooting on the move
  • Ports and doors
  • Unusual start positions
  • Stage breakdown and planning
